Over the last 18 years the Weymouth Club has thrived by Diversifying!

Feature story from the Patriot Ledger, Quincy Massachusetts ...Steve and Sally Goldman bought the club in 1988. At that time it was a thriving racket club with 900 members. Today the club has more than tripled in membership and doubled in size.

The expansion, at a time when tennis popularity was steadily declining nationwide, is a result of the new owners decision to diversify and make the club more family oriented.

"It was really a result of what we were going through in our own lives" said Sally Goldman. "We have three children of our own and our needs in a club were changing. It turned out that a lot of people are in a similar situation".

According to Steve Goldman "the number of people playing tennis has never been greater. Many families who originally joined for aerobics, weightlifting, day care services or swimming eventually sign up for tennis, or enroll their children in tennis camp".

The Weymouth Club has been evolving since the Goldmans first took over. The first of four renovations took place in 1991 when one of the indoor courts was converted into a fitness center. Two outdoor courts were converted into a full size pool and hot tub, under an inflated bubble so they could be used year-round.

The Goldmans expanded the nursery and added family-oriented programs like "peewee tennis" and "fit tots", an exercise program for 3-5 year olds.

Two years later two additional bubbles were added so the outdoor courts could be used year-round. In 1995 the club bought the neighboring 5 acre field for parking and summer camp programs, and converted one of the many indoor courts into an expanded locker facility with steam baths and saunas.

In the last couple of years the Goldmans' have expanded the day care center and fitness care, added an aerobics room and remodeled the lobby and office areas. Today's Weymouth Club contains 60,000 square feet of floor space, an additional 40,000 square feet of under bubbles, and parking for 240 cars. The club is currently situated on 11 acres...
