Dance with Energy Class Instructors

 

Elizabeth Jernigan - Director of Dance with Energy
Elizabeth received her B.A. in Dance and Secondary Education from Roger Williams University, graduating Summa cum laude. She holds a teaching certificate in Dance, grades Pre-K-12. Elizabeth has taught and managed dance programs extensively in both the public and private sector. Working with Arts Alive! Barrington, a non-profit performing arts education program, Elizabeth served as the Dance Supervisor and Associate Director for the organization. In addition, she taught for Chance to Dance RI, bringing dance to elementary public school children throughout RI. She is a member of the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) and serves as the State Affiliate for the Rhode Island Dance Alliance. Currently, Elizabeth is performing with Fusionworks Dance Company, a modern/ contemporary professional company. Most recently, Elizabeth was honored as ‘Dance Teacher of the Year’ by the Rhode Island Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. Elizabeth is thrilled to be a part of the Weymouth Club and Dance with Energy. She is looking forward to helping all of our students grow and thrive as they explore their creative voices through dance!

Kate Jenkins
Kate has been teaching and passing her knowledge on to students of all ages for 25 years.  Kate graduated with honors from Oklahoma City University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Dance Management and Dance Performance.  Since graduating, Kate has traveled and performed as a professional dancer all over the United States and abroad.  She has performed in Taiwan, Las Vegas, Branson, Orlando and on various ships in the Royal Caribbean, Holland America and Princess fleets.  She has also coached and choreographed for numerous public school programs and dance teams, both in middle and high schools.  Kate has instructed professional dancers for several production companies and cruise lines as well as taught in private studios where the student base ranged from three year olds to adults.  Kate has a true passion for teaching and has a natural talent for reaching all learning types.  She is very excited to be a part of the Weymouth Club and looks forward to helping Dance with Energy grow & foster young dancers!

Kellie Brito
Kellie has been teaching dance for over 12 years. Her dancing has taken her to national championships. She graduated with her B.A. of Arts in Dance Performance and Education from Dean College School of Dance in 2007. There she performed as a featured dancer under Maurice Hines and as a part of the elite Dance Company. While at Dean, Kellie focused her training on Pedagogy, Composition and Creative Movement. Kellie was also accepted into Alvin Ailey’s Independent Study Program in NYC. She started directing Weymouth Club's Dance with Energy in 2008 and looks forward to continue teaching with the studio in its 8th season!

Kristyn Grattan
Kristyn has been dancing for 13 years.  Her talents in Irish dance have earned her numerous awards at the regional, national and world championship level competitions.  In 2012, Kristyn was ranked one of the top 20 Irish dancers in her age group in the World.  Kristyn has danced in London, Ireland, Scotland, Canada and, of course, the United States.  She recently auditioned for a show choreographed by Riverdance.   Kristyn will be representing the New England Region at the upcoming World Championship competition in London in 2014.  Kristyn dances for the Brady Academy of Irish Dance and has performed and continues to perform in many arts festivals, shows and competitions nationally and internationally.  Presently, Kristyn is a freshman at UMass Boston and is studying in the field of Health Sciences.  She is looking forward to her second year of teaching with Dance With Energy at the Weymouth Club!

 

Jennifer Tilley

Jennifer is a Rhode Island native, currently working as a dance educator with various organizations, including Arts Alive! and Chance to Dance. She has been dancing since the age of three and has received training in all areas of dance, including ballet, tap, jazz, modern, lyrical, and hip hop. She grew up performing in showcases and competitions, where she earned many honors and awards. In 2003, she completed the Dance Teachers' Club of Boston's Dance Education Training Course and has since had the pleasure of teaching hundreds of students. Jen continued her training at Rhode Island College, majoring in Dance Performance. During her four years at RIC, she was fortunate to work with many talented artists and choreographers while performing with the college’s dance company and in musical theatre productions, including Tommy, Sweet Charity and Damn Yankees. In 2013, she worked with Daniel McCusker and performed with talented local dancers in Providence’s Modern Movement Festival. Also in 2013, she performed "Up to Speed" choreographed by Nathan Andary and participated in Open for Dancing's "Rhapsody in Blue," choreographed by John-Mark Owen. In 2014, she was a guest dancer with Heather Ahern's Aerplaye performance of "In Full Flight." Her most recent work, "Parasite/gHost," a collaborative project that combined body prosthetics, music, dance, and video, was performed May 2016. Jen is a veteran dance instructor with experience teaching all ages at schools and studios across the state of RI, including the Portsmouth Abbey School, Rocky Hill School, St. Philomena's School, Just Dance! and Twinkle Toes Dance Studio. In 2014, she was a dance artist in residence at Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts. Jen is passionate about her craft and is fortunate to share it with young performers. She looks forward to joining the Dance with Energy staff! 

Kathy Lyon

Kathy has been dancing since the age of 3. She has studied Ballet, Lyrical, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, and Hip Hop.  Kathy also performed with numerous award winning competition teams. Since high school, Kathy studied at Umass Boson holding a minor in dance. She worked for various theatre companies such as the Norwell Company Theater, the Norwood Fiddlehead Theater, and Actor’s Collaborative in Foxboro. Some of her credits include Footloose, 42nd St, Cabaret, and West Side Story. Kathy has taught dance for 9 years and has choreographed per diem for area theater companies as well. She has also taught Zumba for 10 years and holds a certification in Barre. Kathy is excited to be joining the Dance with Energy Staff!
