Kathy Buccella: Director of Dance
Kathy started teaching for Dance With Energy in 2017, but has been on the Weymouth Club management staff for 11 years in her role as Member Accountant Manager. Now in addition to that role, Kathy became the Director of Dance in 2022. She also can be found teaching Barre early mornings, for Weymouth Club.
Kathy studied at UMass Boston, holding a major in musical theater and a minor in dance. She has been dancing since the age of 3. She has studied Ballet, Lyrical, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop and Pro-style/Pom dance. Kathy also performed with numerous award-winning competition teams and was a resident dancer for the Company Theater in Norwell for 5 years. Prior to teaching for Dance With Energy, Kathy taught at numerous dance schools such as Studio One, Easton Dance Academy, Shoestrings Studio of Dance, Michelle’s School of Dance and Lisa’s Dance Studio.
Most recently, Kathy has competed in many numerous fitness modeling competitions, and has been published in Status Magazine in 2017 and 2018, Vagaro Magazine in 2019, Boston Man Magazine in 2020 and Fit n Firm’s Spring issue in 2022.
Kellie Brito: Director of Competitive Dance
Kellie started with Dance with Energy in 2008. She teaches Discovery Dance, Creative Movement, Kinder Combo, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Acro and Performing Company classes.
Kellie received her B.A. in dance performance and education from Dean College School of Dance in 2007. There she performed as a featured dancer under Maurice Hines and as a part of the Elite Dance Company. While at Dean, Kellie focused her training on pedagogy, composition and creative movement. Kellie was also accepted into Alvin Ailey’s Independent Study Program in New York City. She has received numerous awards for her choreography at Dance with Energy.
Layla Mouline: Director of Recreational Dance
Layla has been dancing with Dance with Energy since 2012. She has danced competitively since 2014 and has trained in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and acro. Prior to dancing, she was trained in competitive gymnastics for 9 years. Layla began assistant teaching classes for young dancers at DWE in 2014 and has been teaching on her own since 2017.
After graduating Braintree High School in 2017, Layla attended Wellesley College for 2 years and finished her studies at UMass. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in May 2021 with a degree in Early Childhood Education and a written portfolio on dance teaching. She has been choreographing for Dance with Energy’s competition teams since 2020 and has received multiple awards for her choreography. Layla is excited to continue dancing and sharing her passion at Dance with Energy.
Allyson Magazu
Allyson began dancing at Dance with Energy in 2013 and has danced competitively since 2015. She has trained in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and acro. Allyson has won several awards at dance competitions including earning second place for her solo at the Showstopper National Competition in 2019. She began assisting younger dancers at Dance with Energy in 2015 and has been teaching since 2020. Allyson teaches Discovery Dance, Tumble Tots, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Lyrical recreational classes as well as Performing Company classes. Allyson is attending Stonehill College in Easton MA where she will graduate with a degree in Education Studies and Performing Arts: Dance with a minor in Arts Administration in 2023. She is also a member of the Stoneworks Dance Company where she trains and performs in a variety of styles, as well as choreographing for their shows each semester. Allyson enjoys working with young children and sharing her passion for dance. She hopes to continue working with children and wants to integrate her love of dance into her career.
Jaclyn Sanford
Jaclyn joined the Dance with Energy faculty in 2017. She received her training in classical ballet from José Mateo Ballet Theatre (JMBT) and the Boston Ballet School. In 2008, Jaclyn joined JMBT’s professional ballet company as an Apprentice and was promoted to Company Member the following year.
During her 10-year professional ballet career, Jaclyn danced numerous featured roles with JMBT’s Company, including the principal roles of Dew Drop Fairy and Snow Queen in The Nutcracker. She also appeared as a principal dancer in the 2019 feature film Little Women.
Jaclyn graduated cum laude from Harvard University with Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Masters of Liberal Arts degrees in English. She holds an English 5-12 education license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. In 2020, Jaclyn joined the teaching faculty at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, MA, as a member of the English Department.
Colleen Roddy
Colleen Roddy received her early training at Gloria Jean’s Studio of Dance under the direction of Gloria Jean Cumming and Stacy Eastman and New Haven Ballet under the direction/of Phillip Otto. She went on to receive her B.S. in Health Studies with a Minor in Dance and Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Boston University. As a member of the USA Dance Team, she has performed at Madison Square Garden in NYC and competed across the US and Germany at the World Dance Championships, receiving the Gold medal as a soloist and team member.
Colleen has received recognition for her work, including Young Choreographer Awards from the American Dance Awards and North American Dance Championships. She has had the honor to present her work at the American College Dance Festival, Boston Contemporary Dance Festival, Urbanity Next Residency Series, Jose Mateo Dance Festival, BU Dance Faculty Concert, and Kelly Donovan’s Third Life Choreographers Series since 2013. Outside of DWE, Colleen has been a guest artist at Boston University and Harvard University. She has performed with the Boston and Nashville-based contemporary dance companies, including: SixOneSeven Dance Collective, BoSoma2, Sasso & Company, Urbanity 2, Transit Dance Company, and as a back-up dancer for SNL Comedian, Hannibal Buress.
Kate Barry
Kate has been a dancer for seventeen years, loving dance since she was just two years old.
Kate danced competitively for ten years. While competing, she won multiple regional and national titles for her solos. Kate also had the opportunity to be a Showstopper All-Star Dancer two years in a row. Kate danced with Dance with Energy for 6 years and has now joined the staff as a teacher! She is currently enrolled at Dean College, studying Dance, working towards a BFA in dance, with a concentration in choreography. Kate was also accepted into the honors program, which will allow her to expand my knowledge even more. She is extremely excited to be able to share that knowledge with the students here at Dance With Energy!
